Gold Candle has an unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our workers and their families, local communities, and wider society.

Since acquiring the Kerr-Addison Property, Gold Candle has taken several measures to ensure the safety of all, including:

  • Repairing and maintaining the site perimeter fence

  • Posting signage that restricts public access and vehicle traffic

  • Restricting access to hazards within the perimeter fence

  • Removing an exposed pile of sodium cyanide that had spilled out of a ruptured storage tank onto the ground and disposing of it

  • Removing all drums and tanks containing hydrocarbons and unknown chemicals previously used on site and disposing of them

  • Providing all documentation regarding the removal and disposal of the sodium cyanide and the hydrocarbons to the Ministry of Mines

Prior to exploring the abandoned mine site, hazards that could impact worker safety were assessed. A drone survey was initially flown in spring 2015 to capture aerial photography and detailed topographic data. Drone surveys have been continually used since then as a way to assess any changes to the ground conditions around the old underground workings and to site drill pads and access roads.
